Department of History and Social Science

The Department is a community of teacher scholars that seeks to understand the past and strives to introduce students to history and how it relates to them historically. We believe understanding the past will help them better understand the present and their place in in the future. With course offerings covering much of the past from all parts of the globe, from the ancient world to the present, the department offers the foundation for a broad education. Such a base of knowledge has been preparing students since the founding of the school in 1873 for higher education and life.

Our department is notable both for the quality of its educators and for the rigor course offerings. This depth and diversity is set within an educational framework that includes; critical reading, good writing, and the analyses of historical texts.
