Congressional Art Contest of the 33rd Congressional District won by LA High Student

Los Angeles High School is proud to honor art student Yena Jang and art teacher Diana Yamashiro for Yena’s achievement on the national level as the first prize winner of the annual Congressional Art Contest of the 33rd congressional district, represented by Congresswoman Diane Watson. Yena was presented with a certificate of honor and three round-trip tickets, courtesy of Southwest Airlines to Washington, D. C., where she will be recognized during a congressional ceremony, along with other national winners on June 25, 2008. Yena will be accompanied by Ms. Yamashiro. Yena’s reaction was one of surprise and joy, upon learning of her achievement at the national level, and her teacher, Ms. Yamashiro, one of L.A. High’s most effective teachers, was excited but said, “I knew Yena had the talent and determination to win, and we are both pleased to put Los Angeles High School on the map as a winning school!” Ms. Yamashiro and Yena expressed gratitude for the support of Dr. Moohay Choi, Assistant Principal, who oversees the visual arts program, and Ms. Elena Anthony, Principal, in promoting the visual arts at L.A. High.
