Mandarin 1A/1B

Course Description

August 30, 2007

Dear Parents:
I will be teaching your child’s Mandarin Chinese foreign language class for the next sixteen weeks. In order to provide the best possible education for all students I demand the highest standards of excellence of all students.
Thus, beginning tonight, students in my classes will have homework assignments seven days a week to complete and also be expected to participate in all class activities as well as maintain acceptable standards of behavior and attitude in the classroom. For more details please see the homework schedule on the opposite side of this paper. When returning from an absence, it is the student’s responsibility to find out about any missed assignments and complete them by the next class period.

My classroom rules are:
1. No disrespect to anyone in the classroom.
2. Don’t interrupt the teacher or anyone else addressing the class.
3. Have classroom materials only (walkmans, food, drinks, gum, personal grooming accessories, etc. are prohibited in the classroom).
4. Stay in assigned seat on task from bell to bell.
Every time a student chooses not to follow the rules, community service work will be assigned by the teacher for the student to complete. This will either be fifteen minutes of after-school detention, or the task of copying by hand the essay “Why Am I Here?”
1st Violation- ‘S’ grade for cooperation.
2nd Violation- ‘U’ grade for cooperation
2nd Violation in 5 Class Days- Parents will be contacted.
3rd Violation in 5 Class Days- Class suspension. Parent conference required.
Thank you very much for your attention,
Mr. David Hanes
