we are the graduating seniors of the Los Angeles High School JROTC Battalion and we would like to welcome you and thank you for joining us on the South Pacific join us in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance hand over your heart I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America under God indivisible faculty staff family parents and graduates and is with the greatest honor that I welcome you to Senior High 2020 graduation for everyone I want to take a second and acknowledge how amazing this moment in 13 years of hard work has finally paid off seniors in this moment you truly deserve it now I know that this has not been the most ideal year for any of you none of you asked to be a part of the covid-19 tendermint or an equal rights movement or to learn from or even a sacrifice your senior year but I don't want you to only look at 20 20 and think about the obstacles and challenges it brought instead I want you to look back at 2020 as the year that you became a part of History I would like to share a poem written by Leslie to White about this special you what is 20/20 is not canceled what is 2020 is the year we've all been waiting for a year so long finally forces us to grow a year that seemed so loud finally awakening us from our ignorance lemon a year we finally accepted need for Claire Shane work for change become the change a year we finally ban together instead of pushing each other further apart 20/20 is not canceled but rather the most important. this year hasn't been easy but you did it you pull it through sometimes we have to think about what we're going through when we're going through it and we slept guitar knowledge what we've learned where we've been where we're going and how strong we become in the process now seniors this is your year your time rise to the occasion not just to be a part of history but to make a difference in it look at what the clothes or took from you look back at it 20 and realize how strong and how resilient you became all of this never underestimate the power and control that we have over our own line sometimes we have to stand back even in the thick of the storm and see things different you will get through this I believe in every single one of these no no New Normal is no matter what new obstacle or challenge you might face you will get through it you are the class of 2020 you got this National Senior High School class of 2020 I am honored to impart some words of encourage and wisdom to all of you and what will be my last lesson plan you may be thinking what a terrible year to graduate admits the recent Global pandemic and civil unrest that surrounds us not just here in Los Angeles but in all every city in America has why now what we're talking about is adversity the definition of adversity is the state of continued difficulty or misfortune adversity strikes you acknowledge it you overcome it to build your mental toughness and resiliency turn your questions into thoughtful proactive Reflections and she not to be a victim embracing and prescribing to a victim mentality is not the answer and will always be a downfall yes we are all experiencing difficulty uncertain and even scary times use these recent events and the emotions and questions that they stirred inside of you to your advantage pledge to be a positive change agent in your own life and in the lives of your friends and your family answer key decide to take your feelings of uncertainty and disappointment and use them to build your character and fortify your integrity let's not forget that happiness happiness is a conscious state and there are many paths to happiness these are three things I'd like to offer that will cultivate your ability to be a happy and fulfilled person firstly invest in your personal relationships with your I am blessed to still have my same three best friends from 8th grade shout out goes to Lucy Shelley and John secondly search for a filling purpose in your life and set an accomplished goals with enthusiasm and passion finally always help others to make someone's load a bit lighter and always remember to smile and offer of good morning or hello to someone personally I'd like to invite each of you to pursue happiness with the whole of your heart man is fond of counting his troubles but does not count his Joys. Daseke embrace the small jaw each day brings so when adversity strikes which it has an inevitably will again in your lifetime you must take these hard times and struggles and use them to your advantage sad and disappointed in fact it's healthy to be sad and disappointed for time but don't let these negative emotions take root in your mind for they will cripple and imprison you what I'm talking about is the ability to you struggle and strive to make you a stronger more resilient human being I offer you what may seem like an outrageous statement but it is my belief that this class of 2020 is better more poised for future success than previous classes yes you are your class this year has now become an Inseparable part of history and that makes you very special Stephen Covey 7 Habits of Highly Effective People said between adversity and our response is a space and in that space you have the power and freedom to choose to humble or to elevate both yourself and others class of 2020 I encourage you to always be mentally and physically strong pursue your happiness on a daily basis be helpful and respectful to and finally educate yourself with determination and commitment now I'd like to give a shout out to our retiring teachers this year Miss habibian Miss Pam Taylor dr. Davis and myself no salt congratulations to this historic Roman class of 2020 and congratulations to my dear colleagues as we all begin our next Journey on the long and winding road before us much love and best things to all of you hello everyone congratulations class of 2020 for a job well done you will go down in history as the most resilient and toughest La High graduating class in Generations you were born in the shadow of 9/11 it even has to overcome them which you did so congratulations great job I know you're wanted at 12:20 p.m. the best year ever with a grad night and prom that who knew Global pandemic have fun with your friends in the near future some you guys might even plan parties in the summer already play me a great Ally had memories to remember as well so I'm pretty sure you are remember that 5 Hour lockdown we had and I was fighting with a magnet teachers for fruit snacks in the girls gym and everyone else is doing dance battles in Bad Boys gym I don't know who I am but it sounds like a lot of fun just don't forget to thank all the people that supported you and I'll give you love so you can reach this point so right now I'm once you think you're up family your parents grandparents uncles and aunts siblings give me a pet goldfish if you want any pet lizard ice cream man the corn man picture of a cobra like one who supported you and showed you love and brought you to this point and please don't forget to think your teachers counselors administrators another staff members that got you to even get that diploma on a sad note some of the teachers that you might have had will be leaving at Lehigh and a change happy and restful retirement a well-deserved retirement so I'll let you wish nothing but the best for resulting it's a bit being and Miss Taylor now I don't know how old are that is a rumor spread by Jackson at Premier that these return teachers actually taught George Washington I think come true maribea Alton Todd George Washington leadership and how to yell really really loud like really loud like Godzilla loud and I was Taylor Todd George Washington law which is why we have Constitution today so thank you Miss Taylor George Washington to Kachina court and a service line so win-win and well from Issa bibian George Washington just said that her math class is way too hard and he checked out went to summer school to use your teacher that's how it goes so I thank you these actually all these pictures then and I hope they come back and visit then you know I have a guitar legend very very operational SDC truce move on to the next chapter of their lives on W so don't forget I want you all to be leaders best way to ship is what we really need right now so much for those who cannot fight for themselves speak for those who cannot speak for themselves and even take a deep breath for those who cannot breathe and don't forget to vote and to inspire is to inspire is the greatest thing you can do are the most important things to try to inspire people so they can be great and whatever they want to do Kobe Mamba forever number 20 for the congrats class of 2020 were all very proud of you and let's start changing the world's and don't forget this is the secret to success orange chicken parents and classic 2020 my name is Michael Hernandez and I'm proud to say that I'm this year salutatorian for the class of 2020 is a special day today wants a Brand New Bag for all of us today also recognizes all our hard work and dedication and accomplishments for the last 4 years this last decade it also Mark the second time that I'm giving a speech for a graduating class open the hours The Blood The Sweat and Tears we have all worked tremendously hard and persevered to get to where we are today I am proud to say that many mighty Romans 10 Tulsa for the past four years we made lasting memories with our friends that I believe we will all cherish from inside the classroom to bad practices and competition the sports practices competitions to clubs and many more so we will soon be parting ways these are the memories that will last forever I would like to give a special thank you to everything teacher on campus especially those I had the privilege of meeting for if it were not for us we would not be able to grow and become better people I can officially say that through these challenges I have mastered my Essential skills of pulling all-nighters rewriting a five-page essay before a deadline preparing myself mentally to have a mental breakdown I still remember stressing about different Simon's with a variety of different teachers it wasn't just one for each teacher there were very different stresses stresses such as turning in homework for Miss Oblivion doing projects for me and taking test for Miss a billion seeing which I would like to announce that is graduating with us she already did that a long long time ago as matter fact she's actually retiring today it's Oblivion thank you for all your teaching thank you for all the fun and amazing memories your class is like no other. You only say that you are the best teacher on campus with that being said I expect an A on my report card I would also like to give us a huge shoot shot up my mentor my brother premiere he has had my back for the longest of time and as he has seen you grow throughout the years Premier if you're watching I love you this year is not what many of us expected that actually is not what any of us expected at all and though I thought this the beginning of our senior user stressful with college applications I was completely wrong there are countless of things that have happened in are currently going on in the world however through each challenge we have mayonnaise to keep moving forward this a truly marks A New Beginning because it marks the day of growth as pretty as previously stated we have managed to push past each carrier and adapt we are now entering adulthood we now have to take full responsibility into our own hands we can no longer keep saying hopefully tomorrow or maybe later will fix it or hopefully I'll be better in the next few years or maybe he's going to be this way better North or not know we have we have to take full responsibility to manifest our future the matter of Venus or maybe it's a must we are that change that we are looking for are the future we are the example the future Generations will look forward to if you have a dream it's up to you and only you you have to go out there and manifest that tree it's hard it's difficult easy is not an option it's rough it's worth it so as we embark on a new Journeys in this new decade don't be afraid to make mistakes don't be afraid of failure of rejection set the clocks change despite all that has happened I am truly proud of everything we have accomplished I wish everyone a Happy evening and good luck classic 2020 on your new adventure thank you I'm sure when you first walk to the gates of Los Angeles High School you didn't Alex the graduation ceremony to happen like this this last few months have been tough for all of us having to juggle the responsibility of online learning interacting with our families and just keeping ourselves teen well this is not the sending to our high school careers at Waldo Emerson said it is not the destination it's the journey and it has been quite a journey for all of us we spent 4 years so far side Los Angeles High School making friendships absorbing knowledge and learning how to be adults let us remember the challenges we have faced. Trying to figure out where to hang out with her friends or sacrificing nights of sleep for that test that is remember the fun we had when we group we are friends for a project I'm spending the whole. Not doing the project Justice only bringing a half play with an egg or mixture we've all had our own challenges we will transfer the different paths but today we are about the same destination to celebrate our accomplishments are accomplishments to take days or weeks they took months or even years to shoot I remember seeing people practicing their instruments soon after everyone had left. running on the field day after day when you first join band track football or any of the other extracurricular activities you might not have known some of those people around you but in time they become your friends only they knew how time to invest day of school the plains you fell from running laps different station from not getting first place in the happiness from winning however not everything great happen after 3 or 7 some of my greatest memories are of messing around during like the time my group Brenda hotplate by overthrowing a flask or the time we destroyed a tri-fold board by stabbing them with a panel until one of the Queen's came off everyone remembers the time when they were in pain. teachers or stop listening to all together because your friend had a joke to tell you or I wait for you to pass the time when classes were going to slow we've all had those times when we skip lunch in order to work on a project or ask for help on a problem that would surely be on the Westlake extracurricular activities or clubs or classes also connected us with people that we might have never talked to her I would make them in different circumstances Los Angeles High School South Star the nurturing of relation that will hopefully last a lifetime but today when not only celebrate in the fun fun times we had with her friends were also celebrating that we were able to test those challenges known as classes while the beginning was definitely easy and then was not so much not only that you have to keep your grades up for your classes you have to practice for the SATs maybe an apx as well as completing oldest college application it is it is it is easy to drop the ball when you think you've made it but that was not the case here you kept yourself steady even sacrificing some of your free time to make sure your gray stick drop a Beat starting to get extra help even did extra assignments to pass the class anyway what matters is that you were able to handle your personal life and your school as much like an adult and let us know for who made this possible we're all familiar with Los Angeles High School by now the school might not have the biggest budget the most up-to-date bugs or the best food but it has it has an excess is 3 teachers would we be without them to guide us I still remember coming into my 9 Grand Plaza Sandestin thinking they put me in the wrong class because my teachers actually cared about me learning I thought it wouldn't be get any better from 9 grade that I have got in Lucky but by the end of my high school career I actually felt that I was learning in that in college classes I still remember Miss telepath telling me that I could be the valedictorian if I keep my grades up how she will always encourage collaboration in her Avid class and optimistic Outlook you always hat I remember Mr Salinas making sure we had the knowledge that we need it for the AP World exam remember dr. Cohen staying after school and spending her own time to making sure that we knew that's material for our test I could go on but I'm sure you wouldn't want me to list every teacher I had from 9th grade to 12th grade teachers one of the only people pushing us forward we also have our families mother's father's sister's Grandma's it doesn't matter who they are the only thing that matters is that they stuck behind you because you are one of them achievement we are the smallest to our family there really according to the USDA the average cost to replace a child in Los Angeles is around $200,000 without my parents no I would still be an  to the spend all his time playing games and making excuses for not having his homework they brought me the two books that made me become who I am that make me change my outlook on life talk to my class the ceremony is as much as they're such as it is ours their support does not end here however it's going to be worse by 1 times get tough remember that your family will we have your back and they will always stay and be there when you have a problem but this is still our day they'll a will that they will live high school for college while tough times are still ahead we cannot Fear the Future because is our future where the future poets engineers and teachers take this moment and run with it thing to happen is to feel right now and turn it into something beautiful for others to see it seems that the Earth is breaking apart it is up to us to fix it will we why we learned and what we will learn because learning never stops we owe it to our parents to sacrifice so much of your time for us days night working so we could have what we needed we all adore teachers because even though it was something else gave up on them they never give up on us we always put ourselves because we did not go through 13 years of high school when is here we could all be so much more all we have to do is remember that our. And ideas matter so continue to be strong and be a voice for justice and equality remember our community needs are sitting issue our country needs you the world needs you because we are the future this is a message for the graduating class of La High home of the Roman Will Ferrell sing class of 2022 you guys did it graduate congratulations we are very proud of you
