THE LOS ANGELES HIGH SCHOOL BAND AND COLOR GUARD BIOGRAPHY

"City Champions For A Quarter Century"
The Los Angeles High School Band and Color Guard is the premier band in the city of Los Angeles. With 25 consecutive city championship titles (LAUSD Band and Drill Team Championships), this organization has an extensive resume which includes performances in music videos (Vanessa Carlton), movies (Columbus Day), for presidents (Argentina, South Korea, and Thailand), corporate promotions (Sports Authority, Lowe's, American Heart Association, Diet Coke, Converse, Ralph's Supermarket), and in major Hollywood events (Hollywood Bowl Fourth of July celebrations, Sesame St. 25th Anniversary, Animal House Anniversary, Debbie Allen's Street Faire, Mark Taper Forum,GRAMMY Showcase performing live with Pharrell Williams) The band has been seen internationally in the Hollywood Christmas Parade, on television shows (George) Lopez Tonight Show, How Do I Look?, Access Hollywood, Entertainment Tonight, and performs annually in the Disneyland Main Street Parade.
Known for their spectacular use of color and pageantry, the sights and sounds of this award-winning band and color guard makes them a perennial favorite in competitions throughout southern California (In 2014: “First Place” at the Warren, Los Altos, Ramona/Riverside Tournaments;"Sweepstakes"at the Simi Valley Invitational, and "Silver Medalists" in the SCSBOA 1A Championship. They made history in December 2005, 2009, 2012 by becoming the first and only LAUSD high school to win the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association 1A Division Field Championships. This accomplishment gave them a Southern California championship title for band and color guard. The band and color guard won their 25th consecutive LAUSD City Championship outscoring 30 high school bands in the areas of music, general effect, and visual performance. Our drum line has a notable past as well with the 3 Southern California Drum Line Association Div. 3 championship titles (1991,1992, and 1997).

The band is most honored to have received grants from the following foundations:
The Alice G. Harrison Trust, Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation($25,000 for instruments), The Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation/ Ford Motor Company Fund ($30,000 for instruments and scholarships), the Ralph's Supermarket, and the Marilyn Prewoznick Foundation.

The band and color guard was under the direction of Mrs. Darnella Davidson from 1987-2015. New direction is provided by a former student and Musician in his own right, Akhani Cacao. Staff includes: Allan Valladarez, Assistant Band Director, David Diaz, Jr., Music Consultant, and Josh Guzman, Color Guard Director.
