Welcome to our Magnet!

Mission and Vision

Magnet LogoLos Angeles High School's Magnet program is based upon a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) theme. An interdisciplinary program that addresses real-world problems through a standards-focused and inquiry-based curriculum, the STEAM Magnet is geared to the student’s interest in science, computer technology, graphic design, and mathematics.

Our Focus is to ensure that ALL students reach their highest academic levels, thriving as productive, collaborative, and visionary members of the local and global community in their application of STEAM concepts.

Our Vision recognizes that careers in math and science are an essential component of the 21st century, and are central to modern education. More important, these foundational concepts can be used to develop conscientious problem solvers. Through engagement with innovative and challenging, yet nurturing curriculum, and leveraging family and community partnerships, young learners develop into mature reflective individuals equipped to adapt, problem solve, and fully participate as responsible global citizens.

The Mission of our STEAM program is to provide a rigorous academic experience that cares for the whole child and encourages curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, cultural affirmation, community responsibility, and ethical leadership within the STEAM framework.

Our Pathway's primary goal is to prepare high school students (grades 9-12) for higher education and/or careers in math and science. The magnet program offers a comprehensive suite of regular, Honors, and AP academic courses in a rich learning environment to achieve this. The Magnet faculty and staff share a commitment to rigorous classroom instruction combined with academic support and intervention programs to help all students succeed. The cohesiveness of the magnet as an institution with a staff and student body dedicated to this vision of excellence in academics enhances its success.

Historically, our STEAM Magnet, which was founded in 1981, was the first of its kind. It has grown substantially over the years. In 1994 the magnet expanded to include ninth grade. The total student capacity is currently 316 with 11 teachers.
