    The Santa Clara County of Education (SCCOE) builds a culture that promotes equity and values everyone by strengthening, sustaining, and ensuring inclusive practices. We believe every individual regardless of abilities and disabilities has the right to equitable access to quality inclusive learning and community environments.

    The 6th Annual Inclusion Collaborative State Conference is an interactive and reflective educational opportunity to understand and learn evidenced based practices for individuals involved in the care and education of children from prenatal to age 24 with and without disabilities to create or enhance equity, diversity and inclusive practices in their respective programs and communities in which they live.

  • Inclusion Collaborative Conference - San Jose, CA 10/23-10/24/19

    The school year of 2017-18 marked our pilot year of full inclusion at Los Angeles High School. Because of the success of the program, LA High has been chosen as the model for the implementation of full inclusion for the entire Los Angeles Unified School District. The Inclusion Program was also awarded the 2018-19 Humanities award from LAUSD. Multiple special education and general education students have won leadership and achievement awards from both within and outside LAUSD through this program.

    Mr. Sahara and Mr. Nkwocha will share how the program originated, how it was implemented, and how we went from a pilot program to an award-winning program for the rest for the district to follow. We will also share with our viewers what a co-taught lesson plan looks like and how we actively use UDL strategies, technology, and the various co-teaching models to reach all levels of learners in our classroom.

    This video is an example of a PowerPoint presentation used in conjunction with a Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Approach to teaching by Mr. Nkwocha and Mr. Sahara. The lesson is delivered through a team teaching co-teaching model in an inclusion classroom.

    UDL is a framework for how to develop lesson plans and assessments that is based on three main principles: 1) Representation: UDL recommends offering information in more than one format; 2) Action and expression: UDL suggests giving kids more than one way to interact with the material and to show what they’ve learned; and 3) Engagement: UDL encourages teachers to look for multiple ways to motivate students.     This is a sample on how to deliver the final speech, and how one must be prepared as his teachers will interrupt and disrupt the speech in order to challenge him.

    Here's a look at a student speech that is part of the final presentation for the group project. Anthony advocates for video games while addressing counterarguments while being supported by his fellow group members. Sebastian routinely makes sure that Anthony feels his support during the speech, and his reaction at the conclusion is magical - when you know someone else just delivered the group an A+ on a silver platter!

  • 2:04 Inclusion English 9 Group Project Video Montage (Spring 2019)

    For this project, your group will be assigned a specific case study to analyze. You may come up with your own case study, but it must be approved by one of your co-teacher or Ms. Gonzalez..

    Groups will make presentations to the class at the culmination of this project. The presentation will include a speech, summary of the evidenced-based argument/essay, presentation of the group charter, slide presentation, student-generated video, PEER EVALUATIONS, poster and whatever else work product has been produced by the group.

    Be ready to receive questions from your teachers, other school staff and administration, and classmates.
