Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,
Greetings to all Romans! Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year and we especially extend our warmest welcome to new students and families of Los Angeles High School.
It is an incredible time for students and teachers today as educators across the nation are implementing a new set of standards called Common Core State Standards (CCSS). The primary goal of CCSS is to teach critical thinking and problem solving skills in all subject areas. Essentially, CCSS sets out to better prepare students to confront the challenges of this rapidly changing world.
Given this charge, we are committed to engaging Roman scholars in rich learning opportunities to help them become active participants in a dynamic school environment. We are also committed to providing learning opportunities for our parents/guardians with regards to CCSS. More information will follow regarding these workshops.
As Principal, it is my great privilege to lead Los Angeles High School during this time of major transformation. You have my pledge that we at LA High will dedicate ourselves to preparing students become independent thinkers, who can make informed opinions, critique the opinions of others, defend their arguments with evidence, and effectively communicate their points of view. Join me in our efforts to raise the standards for learning and what we expect from our students.
I firmly believe in the power of partnership with families to ensure student success. In the words of young poet Mattie Stepanek, “Unity is strength... when there is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things can be achieved.”
PLEASE NOTE: Mark your calendar for first Coffee with the Principal on Friday, September 5, 2014 at 8:30am in the Parent Center. All parents/guardians are welcome.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel to contact me at the main office. I can always be reached at my email: firstname.lastname@example.org. Best wishes for the 2014-2015 school year!
